A mountain with a very distinctive grassy flat platform just below it's summit. This is a relatively straight forward short steep climb straight up the mountain. The reward is a 360 degree view of the entire Cudgegong valley.
Driving directions
From Rylstone, head east along Narango Road. This turns into a dirt road as you enter Wollemi National Park. Turn left at the Dunnes Swamp turn off, drive for around 2.5km to the Dunnes Swamp day use area.
Directions to the summit
1. From the car park, follow the track along the water toward the Kandos Weir.
2. After about 1.3km, there is a junction where you turn left. Follow this path till you reach the river again, then keep following the river west.
3. Find a suitable place to cross the river, then turn into the gully here, heading NE.
4. After about 200m, turn hard left and climb out of the gully through a wide gap in the rocks. From here, start heading straight up the mountain. There are a few cliff lines you have to negotiate but nothing too challenging. Once above the cliffs, head NW to the top of the mountain.
5. You will come out at a large flat grassy area. There might be animals grazing. Head north (around the west side of the dam) then keep climbing up to the summit.
6. The summit is very open with views in every direction. You can see many other mountains in this book if you know where to look.
